Dr Mike Tame is originally from Cardiff, the capital of ‘Old’ South Wales in the UK. He completed his dental degree at Bristol University in 2000 and following a few years practicing as a general dentist, commenced his surgical career in 2003 in the Oral and Maxillofacial unit of the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport.
Dr Tame spent seven years training and working with Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons in the NHS prior to emigrating to Australia in 2009 for a sunnier coastal lifestyle. He has held academic teaching positions with the University of Queensland and Sydney University, in addition to an Oral Surgery position with Queensland Health. Dr Tame still maintains a permanent, senior Oral Surgery appointment with NSW Health at the Sydney Dental Hospital. Additionally, Dr Tame also provides Oral Surgery services at major Sydney metropolitan hospitals including Concord, Canterbury and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals.
In the course of his postgraduate training Dr Tame has achieved the Memberships of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MFDS RCS) and Glasgow (MFDS RCPS), the Diploma of Surgical Dentistry from Sydney University and the Fellowship in Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFD(OSOM)RCSI). He is committed to continuing education and keeps up to date with all the latest developments in dental and surgical fields. A member of the British Association of Oral Surgeons since 2004, he is a regular attender their annual conference.
Dr Tame has worked in private practice in the Sydney metropolitan, NSW rural and Illawarra area for a number of years and is credentialed at multiple private hospitals and Day Surgeries. He takes pride in treating people gently and with the utmost care and attention. ‘Dr Mike’ is very approachable and will ensure you are followed up after your surgery to make sure of a smooth recovery.
Outside of work you’ll find him near the water or in the surf enjoying the beautiful NSW coastline.
Dr Weld-Moore completed his dental degree from Trinity College Dublin in 2003 before commencing training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Dublin Dental Hospital where he worked as a Senior House Officer. During this time he was awarded the Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (MFDS) before moving to the UK to pursue further training in the speciality at King’s College Hospital, London. He went on to achieve an appointment as a Staff Grade Oral Surgeon in the world-renowned Oral and Maxillofacial department of Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
Following this appointment, Rob was lured by the sunshine of Australia and worked in Sydney for three years. In 2015, he returned to Ireland to commence further specialist training in Oral Surgery and in 2018 he completed his Clinical Doctorate in Oral Surgery (D.Ch.Dent) from Trinity College Dublin. This academic program included writing a thesis, which was on the effect of osteoporosis on the bones of the face. He has written articles for a number of peer-reviewed journals including the British Dental Journal.
Dr Weld-Moore is able to provide specialist Oral Surgery treatment under local or general anesthesia. Rob likes to treat patients with compassion and respect, and particularly enjoys treating nervous patients.
Rob enjoys the lifestyle that New South Wales has to offer. At weekends he can be found in the water surfing and enjoying the sunshine.
Dr Yadir Singh trained in his home country of South Africa where he completed his dental degree. After moving to Australia 15 years ago he originally worked in Tasmania before moving to Sydney to commence post-graduate training in Oral Surgery at the University of Sydney.
He has completed a Membership of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, a Graduate Diploma in Oral Surgery and holds a Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a founding member and current Public Officer of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral Surgeons as well as a member of the Australian Dental Association.
Dr Singh has been a colleague of Dr Tame’s since meeting in 2012, at the Oral Surgery Department of Sydney Dental Hospital, and was happy to join the ECOS team in 2021. He is now the Head of the Oral Surgery Department at the Dental Hospital and also and holds a Specialist consultant position at the Royal North Shore Hospital.
He is involved in the provision of acute and on-call care to patients all over the North Shore through this position. In addition to these appointments, he is a lecturer in Oral Surgery at Sydney University and also has operating privileges at Chatswood Private Hospital. Dr Singh has a very calm and compassionate bedside manner and enjoys putting patients at ease.
Outside of work Yadir enjoys spending time in the vibrant lower North Shore where he lives with his wife and two young boys. He also likes to keep up to date with South African cricket, especially when they are playing Australia!
Dr Ben Karim grew up in Sydney, where he completed his dental education. He graduated from Sydney University in 2003 with his undergraduate dental degree. Following on from this, as a graduate dentist, he decided to undertake specialist training in the field of Oral Medicine and completed his clinical doctorate from the University of Sydney in 2010.
His post-graduate research was on the epidemiology of bisphosphonate medication use and has a variety of academic interests within the specialty. He is heavily involved in the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students at Sydney University and has lectured widely, including at the national Australian Dental Association Congress.
Dr Karim is the Head of the Department of Oral Medicine at Westmead Hospital. Prior to this, he held a position as a Staff Specialist in Oral Medicine at the Sydney Dental Hospital for seven years. Dr Karim is an Honorary Associate of the Faculty of Dentistry at Sydney University, and a Fellow of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia.
Dr Karim worked with Dr Tame at Sydney Dental Hospital for many years and joined the practice in 2021 to re-connect and establish the excellent synergistic relationship between Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine at ECOS. This allows more patients with oral pathology (lumps, bumps, lesions, facial pain, and dry mouth) to be helped and treated in our rooms. Dr Karim, therefore, collaborates with our surgeons to ensure our patients get the best and most appropriate treatment and advice. He is very friendly and approachable and will work closely with referring dentists and doctors.
When he is not at work, Ben enjoys keeping fit and spending time in the great outdoors. He has trekked across many countries and mountain ranges including the Himalayas.
Dr Michael Chen graduated from The University of Sydney in 1993, obtaining a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Dr Chen has worked in a variety of dental settings including public health, health fund centres and private practices. He currently holds a Dental Officer staff position in the specialist Oral Surgery Department of the Sydney Dental Hospital, where he performs and teaches Oral Surgery to the next generation of surgeons.
Dr Chen has limited his practice to Oral Surgery and has over twenty years’ experience in this field. His services include wisdom teeth removal, difficult extractions and minor soft tissue oral surgery under local and general anaesthetic. Michael is very compassionate and a highly skilled operator. Outside of work he has a passion for surfing and fishing.
